It is a remarkable coincidence, separated as they are by almost two thousand miles, that the inherited name of the leader of a minor Greenskin Tribe, and the Warlord claim-title of a Skaven Clan should be identical. Draig. How unlikely a word to span these disparate cultures, for it originates in neither language.

To the Druchii it meant Dragon, long ago before their tongue and with it their race fell into darkness. Perhaps it was those fallen souls who seeded it, through their slavery and their endless wars perhaps the word became embedded in the subconscious of Skaven and Greenskin alike, handed down through the centuries, a cultural legacy of fear and grudging respect for those kings of the sky given as an honour to only the greatest warriors. Or perhaps, as is so often the case, it is simple chance. Either way, it is what a scholar would call curious, and made curiouser still by fact that as we speak, both Generals are converging on the same little patch of earth in the North West of Bretonnia.

A Guide to the Greenskin Tribe known as Da Ghostz, for Officers participating in the Nez Campaign, compiled by Boyar Nikolaevich Czartoryskya, Kislevite 14th Kossars, Vitriev Legion.

Da Ghostz are like nothing you have ever fought before. Abandon your preconceptions, your snobbery, your innate sense of superiority. They have no place here. I say this not to exaggerate, but to prepare you. My men have fought these creatures many times, and the lessons I have to teach were learned at heavy cost in blood.

Da Ghostz are a Greenskin light assault force, unique, as far as we know, in favouring stealth over brawn. Forget the images in your mind of screaming hordes of infantry following primitive battle plans, for Da Ghostz specialize in surgical raids on unsuspecting targets, often attacking at night. They embrace tactics and planning, from feigned flight to camouflage, for they have been observed coating themselves and their mounts in coal dust for night time assaults.

Most other Greenskins view Da Ghostz as creatures to be pitied – Orcs who simply don't understand the visceral joy of combat. Some even accuse them of outright cowardice, but even their most enthusiastic critics cannot find fault with their results. They are remarkably well travelled, having fought in twelve campaigns across the length and breadth of the Old World and beyond. Their numbers are minimal and they would likely be destroyed should they be met by even a small force on an open field, but we have never, not once in all our years of trying, engaged them on ground that was not of their choosing.

Characters

Your men should be alerted to look out for four Greenskins especially. Likenesses have been included for your information, and I suggest you memorize them.

Draig is the Warboss of Da Ghostz. Do not look for the largest, the most brutal greenskin expecting to find him, for you will not. Draig is of average size, for an Orc, and appears unexceptional at first sight. I believe he prefers it that way. His golden armour is of Dwarf make and the small lineated scales glitter like spun gold. It has been 'improved' over the years, crudely patched with steel and sinew dangling charms and primitive totems, but it is largely covered with a great white wolf fur that Draig wears draped across his shoulders. But it is by his axe that you shall know him. The strange black weapon seems to writhe and warp in his hands, bleeding into new shapes before your eyes, each more disturbing than the last. From what we can gather the weapon is demonic, blessed by the Ruinous Powers, though despite his prolonged exposure to it Draig seems almost completely unaffected by its dark magics. It whispers to him constantly in a voice as soft as silk. You can hear it, if you are close enough, and its words chills you to the very bone. 'All the souls that were, were forfeit once' it breathes, 'and shall be so again'. How much of Draig's intelligence can be attributed to the axe has never been accurately determined.

In smaller skirmishes, Draig is accompanied by a shaggy black Warboar Snorta. The slab of an animal is all muscle, sinew, and bad temper. Its wide, tusked head is topped by a shock of spiky black hair, but the rest of its patchy, mangled fur is covered in thick metal plates, crudely daubed with red paint and primitive white war glyphs. In larger battles Draig rides to battle on the back of a great white Wyvern Ghost. The ferocious creature is well named, for in the snow it truly seems to vanish.

Gribbly, on the other hand, is large, larger than Draig by far. His waxy black-green skin is covered in a lattice of thick scar tissue, and he carries a studded Warhammer with a curved haft, taken from an Ogre Tyrant. That he can wield it one handed speaks to his considerable strength, and that he took it at all to his martial skill. His armour is a patchwork construction of rough, rusting metal plates, hammered crudely into shape and bolted to his bulky frame. Where Draig is clever, cunning, and, some would say, half-mad, Gribbly is possesses a clarity of mind that comes only to those blessed with minimal intelligence. His lust for battle is prodigious, even for an Orc, but his bloodthirsty nature is tempered with a seemingly endless capacity for clumsiness. Gribbly is unwaveringly loyal and will protect Draig with his life. He proudly bears the banner of Da Ghostz into the heart of battle beside his Warboss. For his part Draig seems willing to ignore Gribbly's quirks, for along with unnatural clumsiness seems to come an almost preternatural luck.

Gribbly attributes his luck to Mora de Livio, a small human girl who can usually be found perched on his shoulder. Where he found her, we do not know. His primitive mind, never the sharpest tool to begin with, seems to be convinced that the girl is lucky. Most alarmingly of all, Mora seems to be convinced that the hulking Orc, and with him all of Da Ghostz, are figments of her imagination, monsters with which she plays some vast and amusing game. The big Orc is fiercely protective of his little charge and she delights in encouraging him to acts of violence, believing all the while that she is asleep or simply imagining. Forgive her Dazh, she knows not what she does...

Sixa is Da Ghostz lead scout, at least as far as such a position exists among the creatures. An old Goblin, stringy and tough as old boots, he has been with Draig since the beginning. Since before Skavenblight, before Animosity itself, before Da Ghostz were even Da Ghostz, when Draig was banner Boy for Da Red Fang Waaaagh! As much as it pains me to admit it, the little runt's sense of direction is outstanding. He is an albino with snowy-white, almost translucent skin, so more than any of them he truly is a ghost. He fights like a woman, and is no match for even the most inexperience of recruits, but he can find his way through a blizzard like none I have ever seen, leaving nought but the wind behind him. He rides a Great black Wolf called Snowfang and leads Da Ghost's contingent of Goblin Wolfriders.

Gitgit is a Shaman. Small and stunted, he is rarely seen up close, preferring to lurk behind the lines in a rickety chariot mumbling invocations to his belligerent gods. From what we can gather he is deformed, his back bent and his left arm withered and feeble. His mind remains sharp, and though the magic of the Greenskins be a temperamental thing, it is terrifying to watch.

That is as much as we know. I advise your men to be careful. It is a difficult thing to believe, but these Greenskins do not fight like their brethren, with battle cries and predictable charges. Whether the distinction be good for us, or ill, is yet to be seen, but Da Ghostz are real, and I wish you luck should you face them in battle, for likely you will not see them coming.

[[Place Holder for the Skaven Background, and likely an edit for some timeline clashes]]

Just want to point out that I believe that the campaign is taking place in 2525, so if Mora is de Livio's daughter something went wrong! Or did you plan it to be 12 years before... devious.

Other than that, good writing!

There's a suitably devious explanation coming later in the campaign for that Wink
